Dear Premier and Leader of the Opposition,

We ask that you strike the balance between mining and regional development, once and for all. We need you to reform the Regional Planning Interest Act to stop mining and unconventional gas encroaching on our precious places. The food we eat, the health of local communities and our critical water catchments deserve proper protection with an Act that works.

Queenslanders love where we live and want to see our state thrive, now and into the future. Yet some of our key food growing areas and tourism hot spots are still being put at risk by invasive mining projects.

The RPIA was intended to end the conflict between mining and the other priorities for our state. It has failed us, time and time again. Queensland’s best farmland, significant cultural heritage sites, water resources and local communities are still being sacrificed to the ever expanding coal and gas industries.

It’s really a no-brainer! Please reform the RPIA to protect and preserve Queensland’s best farmlands, our life-giving water and our beloved communities. You have the power to ensure a healthy, safe and prosperous future for us all.
